Angel of Death

A movie I'd have to admit to being a guilty pleasure is The Prophecy. None of the sequels are worth while but the original has some interesting points. Would you really want to meet an angel? After all, when God needs some dirty work done that's who he sends to do it. Even the devil was an angel. Interesting! So I thought I'd pump out a sketch of Gabriel from that movie perching like a bird over his infamous trumpet. Always thought that looked awfully creepy.

TMNT

I'm going to try and do each sketch challenge at the Temple of Cartoon Mojo this quarter and having a four day weekend really allowed me to go all out. The theme, obviously, is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. I've not drawn them or read their comic since the early nineties when they first came out. It always bothered me they all looked exactly alike and didn't resemble turtles very well. So, I spent a little time figuring out how the TMNT would appear in my style and more "realistic". The shape of their shells, front and back, reflect their personalities now. It also always bothered me they didn't really look like ninjas so I looked up some authentic, historical apparel and applied what I felt they could use. I did give each a little hint to their normal colors but subdued. All in all, this one I'm very happy with!

This was drawn during the Steeler's win over the Raven's. Go Steelers!

Deadpool

I've never drawn Deadpool before but since Shawn is doing his annual I thought I'd see what he'd look like from my hand. The end result doesn't make me happy but I finished it to get it out of my system. It may look fine (the color is alright) but I'd rather simplify my rendering more. This feels too generic superhero to me. I think I'll do a second one of Deadpool and see what happens.

Temple of Cartoon Mojo Header

This is what I'll be throwing in the ring for the Temple of Cartoon Mojo's banner challenge. So far the only one other person has done the challenge. Hope more do it this coming week!

G'bye 2008!

Walt (Clint Eastwood's character from Gran Torino) is a great vehicle for expressing just the tip of the frosty iceberg on how I feel 2008 went. Bring on 2009!
